New Adventures: Felting

Hello all, it' s been a REALLY long time but I promise I've still been sketching. My lack of easy access to a scanner makes me lazy to post.

This post isn't about sketching though, it's about felting! I got into felting a month back when I tried Jackie Huang's felting kit from Woolbuddy. I was hooked and my desire to make more cute and round animals was relentless. I finally ordered the Studio Builder pack from www.livingfelt.com and immediately started to felt my second animal.

I'm mainly doing this to make Christmas presents this year instead of purchasing them. Give it a more personal touch and it'll give me a lot of needed practice. Above is a picture of the Totoro I felted for Kristina Eng courtesy of the former.

Updates and Teapottery

Sorry for another delayed post. I've been doing a lot of figure sketches, gesture sketches and the like. I'm really trying to strengthen my foundations and reapply that to my skills as an illustrator. Constant challenge. Just as a note, even though I haven't been posting everyday, I'm still drawing everyday.

Here's some older sketches I've done for work based on the Alice in Wonderland theme. I created a set of teapots for the Mad Tea Party set and I really enjoyed drawing these.

And it starts

I'm AALLLIIVVEEE! So after a tumultuous two weeks, I'm starting to get back into the game. Wondercon is coming up so I'm really going to push myself to get around 4 portfolio pieces done and ready for review. And my website. Sigh.

Anyways! Here's some concept sketches of my original character. She's this mix of 20s and 50s clothing-wise, but I really wanted to give her that sassy look. I'm horrible at drawing bodies, but I'm practicing them still so hopefully that'll show in a few weeks.

Sorry there hasn't been a post of new stuff in a week....it's been a bit rough the past few days. Just trying to get myself together and start creating again. Wondercon is coming up and I'm really excited! I hope to work hard and have four potential portfolio pieces ready to show by then, it'd be good to have professional feedback on work quality. I'm really striving to improve myself as an artist and I hope I can reach the goal I'm setting for myself!

Quick update

Sorry I haven't really posted any original work lately....been busy with work, but I'm still going to post up work sketches once it's safe. There's a lot of different things I want to try but I don't really have a lot of time to practice and work on my own stuff. I'm doing my best though! Anyways, I just wanted to keep posting to make sure I didn't get lazy.

Work update

So I didn't have the chance to put up any pictures of my work at Slide...so here it is! This isn't everything, but mostly. I'm working the app, Pocus, and it's all about magic and casting spells. Really nifty stuff.

So the first image is a thorny, twisted vine set I designed. So each set usually has a table, chair, bed, window, door and a fireplace. Costumes and wands too!Second image shows items I made for Chinese New Year. Not really a furniture set, just items and costumes. Don't you love the hair?Third on is a retro kitchen set, super snazzy! I really enjoyed working on this set since it was different from our usual stuff. We're breaking into new categories of furniture so it'll be cool to see what else we do.

Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the artwork or images. I just helped make them. Slide owns it all. Bugger off.

Zoo Day

So I went to the zoo on Sunday! Went with people at work and just started to sketch like mad. First time I've ever done a sketchdump at the zoo so it was a really good experience. I'm not that great at drawing animals, but I'm gonna keep practicing. So I posted some scans of my sketches: There's a flamingo set, penguin set, and bear set! The flamingos were really fun to draw since they didn't really move much but they have a lot of personality. Penguins were the same as the flamingos. Bears on the other hand....not so good at bears, one of turned out looking like Winnie the Pooh* so I slapped a shirt on him. Check out my Alternate Beast* in the top right corner. Fearsome, huh?

*Disclaimer: I do not own rights to these names, characters, or anything related to them period. Leave me the hell alone.

Slightly better attempt

So this is the second watercolor pencil drawing I've done. I think it turned out alright, I really enjoyed shading with the different colors. It's peach/nectarine thingy. I'm gonna keep practicing with the watercolor pencils and try to make more awesome stuff.

I bought some new brush pens from Faber-Castell, the ones with shades of gray. I'll be experimenting with those and see what I come up with.

And as always, copyright on the image.

Watercolor Attempt #1

So this is my first attempt at a watercolor pencil painting/drawing. Nothing really cohesive, just random explorations. I wanted to get more comfortable with the medium. So far, it's pretty interesting to use...I'm going to try the palette technique next so the look will come out a bit differently.

Butterfly Girl

This is a quick sketch/ink drawing that I did on Sunday after the CAM-JAM I went to. I was still on a roll from all the drawing and the inking, and combined with an episode of Kara no Kyoukai...this is what resulted.

For some background reference, the episode of Kara no Kyoukai I was watching showed a girl with long, black hair while she was standing on the edge of a building. That scene was cut along side with a butterfly flying around in the dark. I thought it was a very poignant moment and I wanted to capture the feelings it gave me. The theme, obviously, was flying.

This was actually one of my first, personal, drawings I've done and inked with pen. I hope do more like these in the future as a part of a series, but no guarantees.

Day One

So in efforts to motivate myself and push my creative juices to the limit, I decided to start blogging my sketches and work once in awhile. It'd be a good way to keep track of my progress and since people would be seeing this, I can't be sucky or lame about this. No one likes a lazy person.

My highest priority goal right now, is to finally sit down and design a website for my portfolio. I'm giving myself until the end of March to do this. It doesn't even have to look super amazing, I just need to put a decent amount of effort into it and then I can adjust as necessary. I can do this.
